They can save time and money during the construction phase. When building a home, there are a variety of options available to a buyer or landowner. Buyers can purchase land and create their own home design. Designs can be purchased online, out of books or created through a designer and architect. Buyers can also buy the lot and house package together, or there are kit homes available. A kit home can usually be modified to fit the buyer’s needs, and they can usually save time and money during the construction phase.
On Maui, we are fortunate to have a few kit homes to choose from. Recently, I was introduced to Mandala Homes, which sells Exotic Eco Kit Homes from Bali, Indonesia. With our new focus on green building, these homes are an incredible alternative to traditional built homes. Mandala Homes are built with woods from sustainable plantations, using strong post-and-beam construction and coconut hardwood (which is three to five times stronger than Douglas fir). Mandala Homes are code approved, and meet hurricane requirements.
Mandala Homes are easy to assemble, come with architectural drawings, and offer cottages, gazebos, and any other structures the customer may desire. Currently, there is a Mandala Home for sale in Ha‘iku. It is a beautiful one-bedroom, one-bath with a large covered deck. The attention to detail inside and out is incredible. If you have thought about building, I encourage you to take a look at this home. Of course, you could just purchase this house, but there are also larger kit homes available.
