Helpful Real Estate Resources

Chris Bakeman PB, Chris Bakeman Realty LLC

Find valuable information on the Internet.

Realtors have knowledge and experience about real estate transactions, current market conditions, the psychology of buyers and sellers, marketing property to get it sold, assisting buyers in obtaining loans and other crucial issues regarding buying and selling real estate.

We don’t know everything, but we are fortunate to work with all types of community members as resources for our clients, such as electricians, contractors, title and escrow companies, attorneys, landscapers, property managers—the list goes on…

As a result of being a resource, I receive many calls each week asking a variety of questions from landlord/tenant laws to cesspool and septic tank issues. This week, I thought I’d share some of the Websites that may help you.

Maui County has an excellent Website to access property tax assessments and obtain a homeowner’s exemption (which is due soon), building permit information, zoning, etc.  Check it out at co.maui.hi.us.

Landlord/tenant laws and helpful phone numbers can be found at hawaii.gov/dcca/areas/ocp/landlord.tenant. At www.courts.state.hi.us, you will find information about evictions and other judgments.

Epa.gov is also another helpful Website for questions concerning cesspool or septic tanks, lead-based paint, asbestos, etc.

Looking to buy real estate outside of Maui? Realtor.com has worked well for me in the past; most Multiple Listing Services are connected with this site.

The other site that we all know about is craigslist.com. The number one question I’m asked at my listing appointments is “Should I list my home for sale on Craigslist?” My answer is “Why not?” Craigslist is a great resource for buyers, sellers, landlords and tenants.

Now, my disclaimer: I’m not endorsing any of these Websites, just offering them up for information. If it is helpful for you, that’s great.

Chris Bakeman, broker, has been a realtor since 1997, selling in both buyers’ and sellers’ markets. Now with her own company, she offers an affordable way to sell your home starting as low as $4,000 full service on the MLS. Contact Chris Bakeman Realty LLC at 283-6126 or www.chrisbakeman.com.
