… brought to you by the CountSesame Street Live “Elmo! Ready for Action” is coming to the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Castle Theater for six shows this weekend, Friday through Sunday, June 27 through 29. The little ones can expect to have a ton o’ fun, as there will also be a KeikiFunFest on the lawn between shows, starting at noon on Saturday and Sunday, with bouncy castles, games, face painters and more!
Sesame Street has won 115 Emmy awards, more than any other program in television history, and is the No. 1 children’s television program among mothers. So to help prepare for your Sesame Live experience, one of Sesame’s longtime favorite characters, The Count, wants you to count some fun facts with him:
Behind the curtain:
- There are three different Sesame Street Live tours traveling right now, each starring Elmo. Each tour travels nearly 20,000 miles in a season, performing more than 300 shows.
- Big Bird is made from 4,000 custom-dyed turkey feathers. Each feather is individually hand sewn to a piece of yellow organdy fabric before being attached to the costume.
- All of the characters’ shoes are crafted by VEE Costumes & Creatures. They are made of latex and cast in large plaster molds. Bert and Ernie wear size 15 shoes.
- Performers range in height from 4'10" to 6'2" because the Sesame Street Live characters range in height from Elmo at 5'0" to Big Bird at 8'2".
- Cookie Monster has five fingers on each hand, Big Bird has three and most other Muppets have four.
- Scenery and costumes for each tour are carried in two 48-foot semitrailers; for shows other than the Mainland U.S., the equipment arrives via cargo jet in 10 airfreight pallets weighing nearly 40,000 pounds!
- It takes approximately two miles of cable to run the lighting and sound systems on each tour.
- An average of 28 people travel with each show, including 17 performers and 11 crew and stage managers.
- Each tour’s wardrobe department does 20–30 loads of laundry each week.
Wow! This is going to be a really big show! You don’t need to bring a little one or even be a kid to enjoy this live stage production! The Count, Elmo, Oscar the Grouch and Grover are counting on you to be in the audience!
