Notable author and journalist to talk story.

The Maui Democratic Party Century Club will host renowned author and journalist Robert Scheer on Thursday, Aug. 14, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Kihei Charter School.

Sheer is the current editor of www.truthdig.com, a former Vietnam War correspondent and national correspondent for the LA Times, San Francisco Chronicle and co-host of the KCRW-produced National Public Radio show, Left, Right and Center. He will be sharing excerpts from his new book, The Pornography of Power, “A blistering indictment of the military industrial complex and an explanation of how defense hawks have weakened America.”

Scheer’s discussion will be followed by the film Senator Obama goes to Africa. Described as, “Part personal odyssey and part chronicle of diplomacy in action,” this timely film follows Sen. Obama as he travels to Darfur, Sudan, and South Africa’s infamous prison where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 21 years. The heart of the film is the emotional homecoming of Sen. Obama and his wife, Michelle, as they return to his father’s homeland in Kisumu, Kenya.

There will be a $5 per person ticket charge at the door and Scheer will have copies of his books available for signing and purchase.
