Darshan Dance Project presents Kathak! An Evening of North Indian Music and Dance at The Studio Maui in Ha‘iku on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. The performers, Vineet Vyas and Bageshree Vaze, are accomplished artists with CDs, music videos and successful tours on the classical music circuits of India, Canada and the U.S. Integrating deep family and cultural ties to India with western upbringings and artistic influences, Vyas and Vaze together create an unforgettable and unique performance experience. Combining the beauty of classical Indian dance and music with Vyas’ explosive percussion, their work is a reflection and a homage to both their traditions as well as to the confluence of cultures in a new world. Vaze and Vyas are truly a creative force for the new millennium.
The performance will include special guests Sarala Dandekar and Manju Chattopattaya.
Doors open for ticket sales and organic Indian food and beverages at 6 p.m. Admission is $15 at the door, cash only.
Also, Hindustani Music and Kathak Dance Workshops will be held Monday through Thursday, Oct. 6–9. For information or to register for the workshops, call 269-3499 or visit www.saraladance.com.
