The House of Representatives recently honored two recipients of the 2008 U.S. Small Business Administration Award from Maui in a special floor presentation at the State Capitol. Rep. Kyle Yamashita, the Chair of the House Committee on Economic Development & Business Concerns, offered the resolution. The recipients were congratulated for their perseverance and dedication to entrepreneurship and small business development in Hawai‘i. The U.S. Small Business Administration Awards Ceremony on Maui was hosted by the Maui Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by American Savings Bank. Winners include Beverly Gannon, owner of Hali‘imaile General Store, Celebrations Catering and Joe’s Bar and Grill, Small Business Person of the Year for the State of Hawai‘i; Pamela Tumpap, president of the Maui Chamber of Commerce, Small Business Journalist for the State of Hawai‘i and for Region 9 (which includes the West Coast and Guam); Richard S. Ouye, owner of Service Rentals & Supplies, Entrepreneurial Success Award for Maui; Neil Hasegawa, owner of Hasegawa General Store, Family Owned Business Award for Maui; Brennan Purtzer, owner of Hawai‘i Pacific Media, Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Maui; Richard Kehoe, owner of RJK and Maui branch manager for SCORE, Financial Services Champion Award for Maui; Sky Barnhart Schual, owner of SkyWrite Journalism, Copywriting & Editing, Small Business Journalist Award for Maui; and Carole Kooy, CEO and president of Kilakila Employment Services, Women in Business Champion Award for Maui.
