Once a pineapple manufacturing plant, Ha‘iku’s historic Pauwela Cannery in has evolved into an industrial hub for some of Maui’s most talented surfing, windsurfing and glassblowing artists. On Saturday, May 3, and every first Saturday of the month, the Pauwela Cannery will hold its “First Saturday Art Walk,” featuring live music and entertainment, glass blowing demonstrations by Da Factory and an “After Party” hosted by Voyage East, a unique gallery of exotic Indonesian and Middle Eastern relics and imports. On Saturday, May 3, Pauwela Cannery merchants will host Mapenzi, a marimba band renowned for its blistering fusion of Zimbabwean and East African music and distinctive percussion ensemble. A free, theatrical glassblowing exhibition will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by the “After Party” at 9 p.m. Tickets are $20; for more information, contact Rebecca at 575-9234.
