Maui natives Brittany Yap and Hanalei Jaber have launched a mixed martial arts lifestyle publication called Uproar. The magazine debuted as the official program at the Hawai‘i MMA, Sports and Fitness Expo on O‘ahu on June 27. The 64-page, full-color, glossy magazine will be distributed quarterly statewide, providing readers with in-depth features on fighters, fight schools and fight events in Hawai‘i. “We realized that mixed martial arts isn’t just a sport, it’s a lifestyle,” Jaber said. Uproar’s vision is to help the MMA industry move away from the “street fighting” stigma and highlight the professionalism, discipline and training that is involved. “Our magazine will feature fighters from Hawai‘i and serve as a catalyst for locals to gain more exposure,” Yap said. The magazine is supplemented by a Website where fans can view breaking news, fight results, video interviews and photo galleries. For more information, visit www.uproarhawaii.com.
