Associated Press - Hawai‘i’s largest newspaper announced it will cut 54 positions. The Honolulu Advertiser cited decreased advertising revenue and a weakening local economy as the reasons behind the cuts. The paper is owned by Gannett Co., the nation’s largest newspaper publisher, which reported a 36 percent drop in second-quarter earnings because of a sharp decline in revenue, with shares falling more than 4 percent. Along with The Advertiser, Gannett owns 84 other dailies, for a combined circulation of almost 7 million.
