Friends of the Maui Drug Court (FMDC) received a $5,000 grant from the Dowling Community Improvement Foundation. FMDC provides nonviolent offenders an opportunity to avoid or reduce imprisonment upon completing a judicially supervised substance treatment program. Since beginning operations in 2000, the Wailuku-based drug court has graduated 270 former defendants from Maui/Moloka‘i Drug Court programs. Dowling has donated more than $2.6 million to the community group. FMDC also held a silent auction Tuesday, Aug. 26, in Pa‘ia at the Flatbread Company. Revenue from the auction, as well as the pizza sales from the evening, benefits the organization. Grant applications are available online at www.dowlingco.com.
