The Maui Hotel & Lodging Association held a special reception at the Maui Beach Hotel on Tuesday, Sept. 9. It announced that $331,000 was raised during the 30th Annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk, held this past spring in Wailuku. Statewide participants in walks on O‘ahu, Kaua‘i, Hawai‘i Island and Maui collectively raised over $1.1 million. Maui County raised more money per capita than any other island. Over 60 nonprofit organizations were honored at the reception, with Hale Makua Foundation receiving top honors for raising more than $28,000. Oceanic Time Warner received first place in the business category, while the Grand Wailea took top honors for property raisers. Kelsey Wiegman of Hawai‘i Canines for Independence was honored as the top individual, raising over $12,000 alone.
