For its 31st year, in honor of World Vegetarian Day on Oct. 1, Hawai‘i’s only all-vegetarian merchant presented a delightful experience for herbivores and health nuts alike. Down to Earth offered a variety of food and product samplings in its five O‘ahu and Maui locations to islands vegetarians, and those looking to move towards a meatless diet. Brochures on the many benefits of vegetarianism and Down to Earth team members were on hand to entice attendees and shoppers to go to the “veggie side.” The retailer offers an array of all-vegetarian groceries, bulk foods, organic produce, non-toxic household products, vitamins and supplements. Down to Earth representatives believe a vegetarian diet significantly contributes to a cleaner and healthier life, while playing a role in bettering the environment. The first Down to Earth store was opened in 1977 in Wailuku. Since then, five locations have celebrated success in Kahului and Makawao on Maui, and Honolulu, Kailua and Pearlridge on O‘ahu.
