After striking out to CVS in competition for Long’s Drugs, Walgreens drugstore chain will purchase four locations on Maui. Walgreens is buying three Valley Isle Pharmacy locales (two located in Wailuku, one in Lahaina) and the Lahaina Pharmacy. The owners of the locations will continue to work there until they retire and Walgreens said it plans to hire all 22 current employees. This is the first purchase of a location for Walgreens on neighbor islands, and the company opened its first store in O‘ahu last year. Representatives from Walgreens say they expect to run 25 to 30 stores in Hawai‘i in the future.
