Linda Ayau, account executive, and Lawrence Pascua, production manager, had plenty to smile about at the Hawai‘i Publishers Association Pa‘i Awards ceremony on March 30 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki. As part of Hawai‘i Publications, Inc., Ayau and Pascua not only accepted Maui Weekly’s second-place award for Non-daily Newspaper Excellence, but were able to collect eight awards on behalf the The Maui News. Mainland judges selected winners from daily and weekly newspapers, magazines and trade publications from the entire state. “It was a group effort,” said Maui Weekly Editor Debra Lordan, “and I want to express appreciation to our hard-working staff, freelance writers, photographers and columnists, and also to our readers for helping us focus on issues important to them.”
