At the end of August, hundreds of avid cyclists participated in the Cycle to the Sun race, a 36-mile, 10,000-foot ride to the summit of Haleakala on the steepest paved road on Earth! A pack-a-day smoker who quit just two months before the race, Tom Trottier said, “There is nobody more surprised than myself that I, with my brother-in-law Scott A’Dair, actually completed it!” Trottier recently donated his $1,000 in pledge money to the Pa‘ia Youth & Cultural Center, which was gratefully received by Emma Conant, the Drop-in Center coordinator.
