Queen Emma Athletic Club to hold weightlifting training and event.

The Queen Emma Athletic Club, an outreach program of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, will host a Clean & Jerk Contest at the church hall located at 2140 Main Street in Wailuku on Saturday, May 31, at 10:30 a.m. Youth lifters of various ages and weight classes will compete in the event, which is free and open to the public.

The Queen Emma Athletic Club is a 5-year-old outreach program for youth and young adults of Maui County. The program teaches Olympic weightlifting, power lifting, bodybuilding and sport-specific weight training with an emphasis on work ethic, self-esteem and respect for others.

Training sessions are conducted at the church’s St. Mark Weightlifting Hall on Tuesdays, Thursdays and designated Saturdays from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

The Queen Emma Athletic Club also has a competition weightlifting team. Membership is free. For more information, call 244-4656.
