It’s all about the kids.Seabury Hall will host its 35th Annual Craft Fair on Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at its campus located at 480 Olinda Road in Makawao. With an enduring theme of “It’s All About the Kids,” the annual fair is a popular Upcountry tradition that raises funds for the school’s financial aid program.
The all-day event will display works of more than 100 artists and crafters, jewelers, ceramists, woodworkers, weavers and traditional Native Hawaiian artisans. The fair will also feature a variety of delicious food, live entertainment and music, fresh-cut flowers and locally-grown produce, children’s games and activities, a rummage sale and a silent auction. Special events include a classic car show, a Kawasaki golf shootout and the first-ever Maunalei Salon, an outdoor beauty salon featuring professional hair, nail and eyebrow specialists from KinoNani Salon, the Nail Care Center, Paragon Salon, Paul Brown Salon, Permanent Make-up and Skin Care Center, Supercuts and Thee Hair Salon.
Restaurant Row will feature the mouth-watering cuisine of several local favorites, including Roy’s, Kimo’s, Hula Grill, Sansei sushi, The Four Season’s Duo and a delectable assortment of Indian and Greek food, chow fun, hot dogs and roast beef sandwiches. For dessert, fair-goers will indulge in sweet treats from La Patisserie, waffles topped with fresh strawberries, a chocolate fountain—and goodies from the baking contest. Kids will be entertained and delighted by the keiki waterslide, pony rides, fun activities and the ever-popular “007” video games. They will also have a chance to create a straight-from-the-heart Mother’s Day gift at the “Make a Craft for Mom” arts and crafts booth. In addition, the talented and creative Rose Miller from Absolutely Amazing Face Painting will be decorating faces from noon until 3 p.m.
This year, musical performances will appear on two separate stages—one for adult audience members and the other for youth audiences. Musicians appearing on the adult stage include the Motokuji Taiko Drums, Pekelo Hawaiian Slack Key, Seabury Hall’s Chamber Music Ensemble, Les Adam and Dorothy Betts, Dr. Nat and Rio Ritmo, Shea and Gene Argel and the lively, foot-tapping melodies of the Maui All-Star Harmonica Blues Band. Across campus, on the second stage, children will enjoy the sounds of the Maui Celtic Pipe and Drum Band, Joe and John Eagles, Chrayla Acoustic, The Trio, Aussie, the M3’s and the Samson Tyler Band.
Original art by eight talented local artists—including Seabury Hall parents and alumni—will be on display in the “living room” of the Cooper House. Featured artists include Chelsea Fahsholtz (pastel), Mathew Holton (oil on canvas), Julia Cost (figurative oil), Barbara Lund (ceramics), Kellie Dellplain (handmade jewelry), Jack Hamilton (plein air oil), Robert Suzuki (oil and encaustic paintings) and Linda Whittemore (mono-print). This year, the 35th Annual Craft Fair has something for every member of the family—from the very young to the very young at heart. And with so much to see and do, it is a good idea to arrive early!
