On Thursday, May 15, Maui County Environmental Coordinator Kuhea Paracuelles will present “International Year of the Reef—Hawaiian Style!” The talk, which is part of Pacific Whale Foundation’s Making Waves lecture series, will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. at Pacific Whale Foundation’s Discovery Center at the Harbor Shops at Ma‘alaea (next to Maui Ocean Center). Admission is free and the public is invited.
As the County’s Environmental Coordinator, Paracuelles spearheaded Ola Na Papa I Pulama ia, “Cherish the Living Reefs,” a community task force responsible for planning Maui’s International Year of the Reef (IYOR) events and programs. IYOR 2008 is a worldwide campaign to raise awareness about the value and importance of coral reefs and threats to their sustainability, and to motivate people to take action to protect them.
