PETA vice president to give presentation in Wailuku. On Friday, Aug. 15, at 7 p.m., Bruce Friedrich, vice president of campaigns for PETA, will discuss food choices at the Cameron Center Auditorium, 95 Mahalani St., Wailuku. The event is presented by the Vegetarian Society of Hawai‘i (VSH).
“We all love animals, care about global poverty, want to conserve resources and minimize our carbon footprint,” said VSH member Laurelee Blanchard.
In this provocative talk, long-time peace and social justice advocate Friedrich will apply Socrates’ admonition that “the unexamined life is not worth living” to our food choices. He will also examine recent science around the global food crisis, global warming, nutrition and animal sentience.
Friedrich has appeared on The Today Show, Hardball, The O’Reilly Factor, and many other cable news shows and has been interviewed repeatedly by some of the country’s most influential newspapers.
Before joining PETA, the world’s largest animal rights organization, 12 years ago, Friedrich spent six years running a shelter for homeless families and a soup kitchen in Washington, D.C.
Talks are structured for adult-level audiences. The Vegetarian Society is not able to provide childcare. Admission refreshments are free.
