Pukalani Superette cashier Carole Davis gets a laugh from surprised customer Jamie Ferge while Maui County Mayor Charmaine Tavares bags groceries in a reusable shopping bag. The mayor, Councilmember Mike Molina and Haleakala National Park Superintendent Marilyn Parris spent last Saturday morning bagging groceries in specially-designed, reusable shopping bags to encourage customers to decrease their use of plastic bags and to promote ways to protect our coral reefs. The promotion was held in conjunction with the 2008 International Year of the Reef (IYOR) campaign.
