On Saturday, May 10, and the second Saturday of every month, a composting class is held at the MOA Center, 164 Kamehameha Ave. in Kahului from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
Forty-three percent of what is bagged and sent to the landfill is organic material that can be made into compost. Composting creates rich soil and stronger plants, reduces erosion and the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, uses free and available resources, increases the life of our landfill, cuts down on greenhouse gas emissions and reduces global warming—and it’s easy to do.
Those who would like to compost, but don’t have a garden, can compost junk mail and food scraps to worms. Red wiggler composting worms quietly and efficiently make the richest compost possible.
The cost is $5. Call Wilma Nakamura at 573-3911 to register for a workshop. Compost workshops can also be arranged for groups and organizations.
