Status report on Maui’s water supply. The basic principle of water conservation is simply not to waste water. But Maui County Water Director Jeffrey Eng said that most of us may not be aware that we are wasting water.
“Wasting water happens when we take showers longer than necessary, don’t turn off the faucet when brushing teeth or washing dishes, and irrigating outdoors in the heat of the day or when it is windy,” said Eng.
For Central and South Maui customers, the Department of Water Supply (DWS) has requested that all customers reduce consumption by 10 percent. DWS also declared a drought watch for Upcountry Maui, asking Upcountry customers to reduce water consumption by 5 percent. Customers with agricultural rates are exempt.
