The Maui News - Hawai‘i Superferry announced last week that retired Admiral Thomas B. Fargo will replace John Garibaldi as president and chief executive officer of the company. Fargo, who was commander of the Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor beginning in 1999 and took over as commander of all U.S. military operations in the Pacific in 2002, said he remained in Hawai‘i after he retired in 2005 because “we really liked it here and we got a lot of encouragement from folks to stay.” But he had no role with Hawai‘i Superferry until he was asked to take over the top executive positions, he said. He served as managing director of J.F. Lehman & Co., a primary investor in Hawai‘i Superferry. Garibaldi will become vice chairman of Hawai‘i Superferry and serve on its board of directors. According to Garibaldi, the addition of Fargo is an indication of Hawai‘i Superferry’s “commitment to bring really big talent here.”
