The Associated Press - On Thursday, May 1, a group of volunteers celebrated Lei Day on O‘ahu by stringing 5,336-feet of flower lei that stretched one mile across Kapi‘olani Park in Waikiki. Hoping to set a record for the world’s longest lei, the volunteers sent videos, photos and witness statements to officials at Guinness World Records. Success seems all but certain, as there is no current Guinness record for the world’s longest lei. Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann is expected to announce whether the record is official within a few weeks.
