Gov. Linda Lingle released $3,565,000 last week for the construction of traffic and safety improvements at two spots along Hana Highway. In a press release issued last week, Gov. Lingle said, “These projects will benefit Maui drivers by allowing for faster and safer commutes as part of our Administration’s efforts to improve highways and other transportation infrastructure statewide.” The project is designed to alleviate traffic on Hana Highway in the west and eastbound directions during morning and afternoon peak hours by extending the length of the second through-lane and the right-turn storage lane in the westbound direction of Hana Highway by approximately 2,000 feet, before the intersection with Haleakala Highway. Construction is scheduled to begin in March 2009 and is expected to be completed in December 2010.
