Park ends cabin lottery

Starting in September, Haleakala National Park will no longer use a lottery system to select cabin users. All reservations will be taken over the phone on a first-come, first-served basis. Calls for reservations will only be accepted from 1 to 3 p.m., seven days a week. All reservations require a credit card, and the park has instituted a cancellation fee for all reservations. Early reservations may be made three months out from the day of the call. Reservations may be made by calling (808) 572-4400. The park is working with a local vendor to develop an online cabin reservation system. Ending the lottery and converting to a credit card-based system is the first step in that transition. The new online system, with access through the park Website, is expected sometime this fall.
