Fire Captain David Thyne was promoted to battalion chief and assigned to the Kahului Fire Station, according to an announcement by the Department of Fire and Public Safety issued last week. Thyne assumed his new position on Aug. 1, bringing 21 years of experience with the Maui Fire Department (MFD). His most recent assignment was as fire captain for Engine 2 at Pa‘ia Fire Station. “Battalion Chief Thyne is a great leader who has taken the initiative to become actively involved in department planning and a number of community-related projects,” said Maui Fire Chief Jeffrey Murray. Thyne began his career with MFD in 1987 and was promoted to fire captain in 2002 after assignments to Lahaina and Kihei Fire Stations. “His forward-thinking approach and strong ethics have earned him this promotion, and his desire to make a difference has always been a positive force in the department,” said Murray.
