The Maui News - Despite the slow economy, each “Cop on Top” Safeway location last week surpassed its goal of raising $10,000 for Maui County Special Olympics. Adrienne Laurion, regional director of Special Olympics Maui County, reported that the Kihei location raised the most with $11,595; followed by Kahului with $11,293.50 and Lahaina with $10,994. The totals include a portion of donations made over the Internet to the Kihei and Kahului officers. There was no Internet donation site for Lahaina. From Thursday, Sept. 18 to Saturday, Sept. 20, Maui County police officers spent time on the stores’ rooftops and in Lahaina on a nearby scaffolding, in hopes of raising money for Maui County’s Special Olympics program. Officer Nick Krau was in Kihei. His brother, officer Tony Krau, and officer Kaena Brown were in Kahului and officer Nathaniel Hubbard was in Lahaina.
