"The Weekly Dish" April 20
April 20, 2012 - Trisha Smith
Miss da Dish today? Catch this morning's high-energy serving of Maui's favorite talk variety show.
Tune in here each Friday on Maui Weekly's "The Dish From Trish" blog to catch what you missed during the live radio broadcast at 7:05 a.m. on KAOI 1110Am/96.7Fm.
We were high on life this morning in paradise, and jammed a community- and eco-conscious episode into less than hour of airtime. Pretty standard protocol, and we love doing it each week. Thanks for listening!
My Groovy co-host, Shawn Michael, and I welcomed our buddy, music aficionado and photographer Brendan Smith from Requests, to the KAOI Radio Group studios to assist in hosting duties, and he handled our reporting ruckus well, quick-witted as always with a clever jab here and there. :-)
Tomorrow is Record Store Day (RSD), and the island's only record shop is throwing out all the stops with a fully-loaded celebration of all things music in Wailuku. Last year's RSD was a big success, so B and the boys have crafted another lively event for music lovers of all ages to enjoy. Check out the flier below for more information and listen to Brendan's rundown on the schedule and Requests special deals via the first link on the right.
Thanks to Wailuku Coffee Co for the early morning liquid infusions and healthy bites, and much love as always to Megan, Jackie and all the fine folks from this great cafe' in the heart of town. I really love Wailuku, and enjoy working from this area of the isle a few times a week. I get to see inspirational individuals and my good friends, such as Rachel G of Body Alive Yoga and Movement Studio, and now the new Exotic Eye tattoo lounge! The Weekly Dish fully supports Miss Gonzalez and her array of creative outlets, and we really admire her hard work. Plus, her adorable sidekick Miss Conquistadora seals the deal! We love our lil radio mascot! (And Rachel certainly helped us ring in the weekend, bringing Lil C in this morning sporting a jester hat with bells on. Classic!)
Visit www.bodyaliveyoga.com and stop by Rachel's booth at Sunday's extravaganza to commemorate Earth Day. (See flier below for more festival details.)
Today is a special day for many reasons, including the birthday of our close gal pal, the amazing photographer Jessica Pearl, and it's also the one-year anniversary of Groovy's commitment to his Jem! That's co-host Shawn Michael and his wife Fasha, for those of you that don't follow my nickname games. ;-)
Shawn and Fasha are a wonderful pair, that respect and love each other so much. One of my favorite couples ever, and they make me believe marriage isn't so bad... And that thought is difficult to bend. ;-) Congrats, my friends! Aloha <3
The Weekly Dish reported Maui Weekly's latest news and feature articles, and chatted with our arts & theatre expert, Mr. Paul Janes-Brown.
We also covered the fiery "4:20 Live Mixed-Tape" party @ Three's in Kihei. Raw hip-hop artists throw down in the Surf Lounge tonight and celebrate among friends, old and new. Thanks to Jason Brown of Groovy Buddha Productions for rising and shining early with us. Jason and his wonderful woman, Christy, have been friends of mine since I moved here, and I'm stoked to see their company grow, and their family! (They welcomed Rhythm to the mix in 2011, and he's such an amazing baby. Congrats!)
Humorous homie Chino LaForge of Power-Up Comedy called in with the dealio on this weekend's two shows with The Greg Wilson on Stella Blues. The renowned comedian was unable to make it live on our show, due to a flight cancellation, and we were stoked to welcome back our buddy Chino to deliver the scoop. We also gave away two tickets to the event. Congrats to our listener Lisa James!
We highlighted Ambrosia's nightlife, including this Tuesday's fierce late-night event, featuring DJ LaRage and her man Astro Raph for a old school drum'n'bass, dubstep and dirty house set. The dance floor will be on fire all night, trust me. Plus, I'll be slinging drinks behind the bar that night. Visit us! You will have fun!
We ended with a little love for our friends of Lukas Nelson & the Promise of the Real. (Catch the fantastic band at Charley's tonight and tomorrow night on the North Shore.) Unfortunately, I forgot their brand new album, "Wasted" (released April 3), and we paid respect to the hit "Four Letter Word" from the last album. L-O-V-E is what it's all about! Thanks for all the love from you, my listeners and readers!
Visit the recording's link below and hear what else you missed on this morning's wacky and wonderful airwaves adventure that is The Weekly Dish-a delightful recipe for Maui's community and entertainment news. Keep it real. Aloha!
