Kit Kat Club Christmas Cabaret & Food Drive
December 10, 2009 - Trisha Smith
There's nothing wrong with being naughty, as long as you're nice sometimes, too.
Join Maui’s own burlesque troupe, the Kit Kat Club, for their second annual Christmas Cabaret & Food Drive next Wednesday evening, Dec. 16, at Café Marc Aurel in Wailuku.
The luscious ladies have been keeping busy this last year, from helping host the popular Maui SLAM! monthly events at Casanova’s in Makawao to taking to the Historic ‘Ïao Theater stage on numerous occasions for special showcases.
You may have also seen several of the Kit Kat Club’s frisky kitties in the recent production of Cabaret, the latest from the Professional Artists of the Pacific, LLC, in association with Maui Academy of Performing Arts.
After flaunting their talents around the isle this last year, the girls hope to round out their success with a night of holiday glitz and glam, full of music, comedy and dancing to support a good cause.
You see, the Kit Kat Club Christmas Cabaret will accompany a food drive for the Maui Food Bank (MFB), which as we all know, needs our donations more than ever this year.
Dire economic conditions have affected all of us, but just imagine how many more are hungry now. Nearly 20 percent of our state’s population is living in poverty. It’s easy—clean out your cupboards and pantries, and grab those items that you swear you are going to use, but never do. I know plenty of you can spare a can of tuna or vegetables, and guess what? Those are two of three top items the MFB needs the most.
Guests get in free with just one nonperishable food item, although the more donations, the better.
So, one of my favorite bands as of late is The BrownChicken BrownCow string band and they will be opening the cabaret showcase with some festive ragtime tunes.
These transient talents are back on Maui and have been playing here and there across the nation, boosting support for the tracks on their new album Gallop On You. Don’t miss their official CD release party at Mulligan’s On the Blue this Friday night, Dec. 11. The album was recorded over the guys’ travels this past year, with several tracks recorded right here on Maui. Check out www.myspace.com/brownchickenbrowncowstringband for more information.
You can be certain that next Wednesday’s event will be full of satirical and sensual antics, and plenty of prizes for partygoers. From last year's photos—taken by the wonderful Miss Jessica Pearl, might I add—this shindig looks like a rockin' good time.
Enjoy guest performances from some of the island’s most artistic individuals such as Rachel DeBoer, Tom Althouse, Lynnea Barry, Karli B. and Jason Wulf, along with special appearances by Bad Santa and some mischievous reindeers. Prancer’s off the wagon again, so beware.
Deejays Sid and Joey the Wrench will throw down some fun, electro-holiday sounds to keep the party going into the night.
Bring some mistletoe to steal a kiss at the sassiest holiday celebration around this Wednesday, Dec. 16, at the bohemian Café Marc Aurel, located at 28 North Market Street in Wailuku. The shenanigans begin around 7:30 p.m., and continue until close or until they kick everyone out. Remember, admission is free with a nonperishable food item.
And, well, if you don’t bring a donation, be prepared to receive a spanking. Wait, some of you might enjoy that… Just bring some food, capiche?
