The Weekly Dish April 15 edition
April 15, 2011 - Trisha Smith
Missed Friday morning on KAOI 1110AM/96.7FM? No worries! Maui Weekly serves up past episodes of the isle's most exciting talk variety show.
Hey guys! I'm testing some new avenues to post THE WEEKLY DISH radio for your listening pleasure, any time you want. :-) My groovy co-host Shawn Michael and I realize that not everyone gets 2-4 hours of sleep per night and are up at the crack of dawn like us. We forgive you... haha. This a temporary resolution to post in a blog for now... progress will prevail! Thanks Lawrence for all your help! (Audio note: Please allow the show to download the entire link before you can listen to specific segments or jump around the hour. This will not be an issue, hopefully, in the future as we podcast.)
FRIDAY, APRIL 15
This morning's show was jam-packed with loads of community news and views from the Maui Weekly, so make sure you check out all the great information the paper's Website has to offer. We covered a few features with some of my fav small businesses such as Maui Classic Cruisers, 808 Deli and more. (Check out the links to a few of The Weekly Dish's fabulous supporters, including Maui Zen Day Spa in Lahaina, who is offering a FREE STONE MASSAGE UPGRADE with any massage purchase... Just mention the radio show and you're on your way to sweet serenity.)
We also spoke with Nante from Southside Boxing Club, as he prepares for Saturday's "Boxing Under the Stars" event at Wailea. (See flier... )
MAUI MUSIC NOTES My groovy co-host and the groom-to-be, Shawn, helped me welcome back the coolest new rock outfit on the isles... Maui's own fab four, VISIBLY SHAKEN! (P.S. Shawn and Fasha are making it official on Wednesday, April 20, and we couldn't be happier for them. Congrats!!)
Like real rock stars, the VS boys—Luke, Tristan, Noa and Evan—hustled in the KAOI studio a lil late, yet jumped right in on the action. We're always glad to have them, and are super stoked about their venue debut at Three's Surf Lounge in Kïhei tonight @ 9 p.m. All-ages show until after 10 p.m., the teen, "punk-tinged" rockers will be followed by the incredible KANEKOA. Check out the Website below to learn more about Visibly Shaken and the melodic strides the fierce foursome is making on Maui.
RECORD STORE DAY is tomorrow, so I'll be perusing the dusty vinyl and CDs at REQUESTS MUSIC in Wailuku during the afternoon, raising my spirits as I enjoy some clever company, laced with the lively struts of Arise as well as some smooth funkadelics from Rabbitt and The Propers. ‘Iao Theater has a "Pulp Fiction" stage show down the street, then there's a magnetic hardcore/punk rock show @ Stella Blues in Kïhei later that night... A big thanks to Mike Poulin, the bassist from DEFEATER, for coming on the radio to chat about Saturday's gig. (See flier... )
So much to do, so little time, money and sleep... I hope everyone has a stellar weekend and remembers to have fun, be good to each other and the community. Aloha. :-)
The Weekly Dish is currently brought to you by the one and only, Maui Weekly, and creative and caring small businesses like 808 Deli, Classic Cruisers, F & H Construction, Stella Blues, Maui Zen Day Spa, Jessica Pearl Photography and Mulligan’s On the Blue. A superb collection of some of the isle's finest entities.
"Enjoy The Weekly Dish—a delightful recipe for Maui's community and entertainment news. Keep it real Maui. Aloha!"
