The Weekly Dish May 13 edition
May 18, 2011 - Trisha Smith
Miss last Friday's stellar episode of The Weekly Dish radio show? Tune in to catch this fun and informative Maui community and entertainment news show, plus enjoy our hilarious live interview with some Wayans Bros.
(Sorry for the delay, but an excursion to San Diego delayed this last episode's upload. Please enjoy as you wish. Aloha!)
Last week's "Friday the 13th" edition of your weekend jumpstart, THE WEEKLY DISH (KAOI1110AM & 96.7FM from 7 to 8 a.m.), was silly and sassy as ever, jammed with the usual cool news and views from the MAUI WEEKLY; green energy information; great advice and services from the isle's own small business community; some arts & theatre grooves from Paul Janes-Brown during LET'S TALK MORE... ; and a bustling MAUI MUSIC NOTES segment highlighting the exotic vigor of Waitiki 7 before their Stella Blues performances, and humanitarian and roots talent, Ras Lil Dread, dropped by the studio to share jah love.
It was Stevie Wonder's 61st birthday on Friday, and as avid fans of the living legend, The Weekly Dish gave much love to our funkadelic, soul brotha and discussed a few "breaking" national and world events that caught our interest. (Always an adventure... )
My cohost Shawn Michael and I welcomed superstar special guests—the comedy duo of Shawn and Marlon Wayans—for a fun phoner and gab session. The silly boys got a lil rowdy on the show, but we kept them in check during our exclusive live interview with them from Hollywood. (DISCLAIMER: The Weekly Dish is not responsible for mentions of marijuana and frisky behavior by guests. Gotta love live broadcasts!)
The younger members of comedy’s “first family,” Marlon and Shawn Wayans got their start on FOX TV’s ground-breaking comedy sketch series, "In Living Color," created and produced by their older brothers, Damon and Keenan Ivory Wayans. Marlon and Shawn also starred in The Wayans Bros. sitcom and are masterminds behind such zany blockbusters as the "Scary Movie" films, "Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in The Hood," "White Chicks" and more.
Now, this duo of "comedic gold" will perform on Maui for the first time during their Friday, May 20, show @ the MACC. (Call 242-SHOW for tickets... which are going fast!)
“We’re not the Smothers Brothers,” Marlon, 38, said in a recent PR. “We bring it, and bring it hard.”
There's also plenty more deliciousness we dug into, so take some time and check it out, ya hear?! Just click on the links provided and visit some of this week's highlighted sites. Also, scroll over photos to discover a few of our favorite small businesses and learn about a variety of great events coming up on Maui.
Thanks for listening every Friday to "THE WEEKLY DISH—a delightful recipe for Maui's community & entertainment news." Keep it real. Aloha!

Marlon and Shawn Wayans stop by The Weekly Dish last week to rap about their comedy showcase @ the MACC this Friday, May 20. The boys kept it raw and silly, and shenanigans ensued...
