He was pronounced dead two days later due to severe head injuries upon impact—most likely caused by a large object or a motor vehicle. I cry out for answers, as the Maui Police Department (MPD) still struggles to learn what led to the nightmare at Pa‘uwela. There have been many rumors; however, we do know that he was in fact run over by a truck… and someone has to know what happened that night.

Since the investigation of Yesuah’s death, there have been several acts of violence on our island. I have spoken to MPD officers, physicians and other parents, including a father whose son was attacked on Dec. 23, 2008, after attending a Christmas party in PoliPoli. The young teen also suffered severe head injuries that were indicative of force caused by a metal object, such as a baseball bat or baton. The victim remembers being hit from behind. He was hospitalized for two months for treatment and still has not fully recovered—but miraculously, he is still alive.
