Arts & Entertainment NewsThe Rockin’ ’50s
The Platters, The Drifters and The Coasters at The MACC.
POSTED: August 13, 2009
It’s time to celebrate rock and roll with the Rockin’ ’50s. The hits that defined rock and roll are now coming to the Maui Arts & Cultural Center with performances by The Platters, The Drifters & The Coasters at the Castle Theater Sunday, Aug. 23 at 7:30 p.m.
The Coasters, known as the “Clown Princes of Rock and Roll,” will perform much of the comedic material they are known for and will treat audience members to memorable hits such as Yakety Yak, Charlie Brown, Little Egypt, Poison Ivy, Along Comes Jones, Young Blood and Love Potion #9. Surely, there is no more aptly named group in show business today than The Drifters. The deep notes that formed Motown remain. The Drifters continue the legacy of radio staples such as There Goes My Baby, Save The Last Dance For Me, On Broadway, This Magic Moment, Up On The Roof and Under The Boardwalk. The Drifters are best known as a performance group, showing off their polished choreography, special effects, smooth patter, and most of all, the patented Drifters’ sound. Meaningful rhythmic music with great harmonies mark the Platters as a band that will take you back to the ’50s with hit songs like Only You, Harbor Lights, The Great Pretender, My Prayer and Smoke Gets In Your Eyes. All seats are reserved and are priced at $25, $35 and $45. Tickets are available at The MACC Box Office, charge by phone at 242-SHOW or order online at mauiarts.org. Annual donor discounts are available. A Tom Moffatt Production. |
