The production of foie gras is inhumane to ducks, according to many sources, causing ongoing suffering. Foie gras is factory-farmed—ducks are restrained and force-fed with a long metal pipe is shoved down their throats two to three times each day. Their esophagi are sometimes painfully punctured during the violent force-feedings and access to water is so limited that the ducks vomit from their nostrils often become blind. Fifteen nations in Europe outlawed force-feeding for foie gras.
Only by informing the public and elected officials about the inherent cruelty of foie gras will the needless suffering of birds for a mere palate preference end. Please join us for these demonstrations, and ask restaurants that serve foie gras to take it off their menus.
