Local support for healthcare reform

September 17, 2009
Maui Weekly
On Sunday, Sept. 6, President Barack Obama’s Hawai‘i State Director for Organizing For America Ria Leilani Baldevia (front page, left) held a healthcare reform strategy meeting at Hale Mahaolu Akahi Community Center. Maui MoveOn.org activist Angela Smith (front page, right) helped to organize a “We Can’t Afford to Wait Vigil,” on Aug. 27 at the intersection of Mokulele and Pi‘ilani Highways in Kïhei (above). Over 350 nationwide vigils were held to let Congress know that voters are counting on them to act quickly on HR 3200 for bold healthcare reform with a public health insurance option.
