Instead of the public relations ploy, I would have rather seen the half-page ad explain the plans and impacts of the expansion.
Like where are the eight detached buildings and the additional 310 rooms going to be? Where is the extra parking for 310 more rental cars. When they are busy now, they park the cars on the driveways leading to the lobby and the available lawn space inside the entrance.
How about the employee parking? Where are they going? How about public parking for Maui residents to get to the beach? The last time I drove back there looking for the public space and beach access, there were only card-accessed gates.
Will there be any structures or hotel-related activities encroaching any closer to the public beach than are already there?
The ad says to contact the Maui Planning Commission to urge them to support the expansion. Why would anyone contact the commission to support it without knowing the plans and having some basic questions answered?
Can we expect the same pubic relations ploy as the Prince used and march or bus all those housekeepers over to the commission hearing to show support with a free lunch in the building on Wells Street?
