Christmas Celebration at Pi‘ilani Village

November 30, 2009
Maui Weekly
Pi‘ilani Village Shopping Center kicks off the Christmas season on Saturday, Dec. 5, with non-stop entertainment and holiday crafts for the kids.

The joyous “Merry Christmas Maui!” event starts at 3 p.m. with an hour-long demonstration by 50 young dancers from the Maui Academy of Performing Arts (MAPA). The accomplished MAPA students, ages 5 through 17, will perform a series of ballet, jazz and hip hop routines guaranteed to pump up the holiday spirit.

Next, Uluwehi Guerrero, celebrated Nä Hoku Hanohano award winner and longtime kumu hula, takes center stage until 4:50 p.m. with members from his Halau Hula Kauluokala. Renowned for his sweet voice, soaring harmonies and powerful falsetto, Uluwehi will perform beloved hula songs from his recently released CD, Na Mele Hula Aloha.

The Christmas show will be hosted by popular radio personality Sistah Val from KPOA 93.5 FM, who not only gets to share the stage with a multitude of talent, but gets to give away two Christmas trees at the end of the program.

Of course, no Christmas event would be complete without a visit from Santa Claus.  From 3 to 5 p.m., kids will have the opportunity to tell him how nice they have been all year, what they want for Christmas and they’ll receive a free photo with Santa.

Kids will also be able to decorate their own 5-by-7-inch photo frame for their “Santa & Me” photo. As part of the afternoon craft sessions, they can also add their personal touches to tree ornaments and fresh cookies until 5 p.m.

The Merry Christmas Maui! event is sponsored by the Pacific Radio Group in partnership with Pi‘ilani Village Shopping Center.

Pi‘ilani Village is located just off Pi‘ilani Highway in Kïhei.
