John Cruz has distinguished himself as one of the most talented songwriters who has ever come from Hawai‘i. His fans love his warm, heartfelt melodies and passionate, soulful vocals—especially in live performances when his music is matched with candor and wit. John’s well-earned reputation was solidified when he released his long-awaited second album, One of These Days, in 2007. The following year, he was named “Best Singer Songwriter” by Hawai‘i Magazine and he received a Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award for “Contemporary Album of the Year.” See John Cruz in the intimate setting of McCoy Studio Theater on Friday, Dec. 4. Tickets are $32. Tchaikovsky’s unforgettable score for The Nutcracker matched with lavish sets and gorgeous costumes make this beloved classic the perfect holiday treat for children, parents and grandparents. Ballet Hawai‘i’s production is unique to the islands, with guest stars from great ballet companies and a cast of the finest dancers in Hawai‘i, including some from Maui. Enjoy The Nutcracker in two performances on the Castle Theater stage at the MACC: Saturday, Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $30, $40 and $50. Legendary singer-songwriter-guitarist Kris Kristofferson brings Maui an early Christmas gift in a special night of acoustical guitar, harmonica and songs from his new release, Closer to the Bone. The new CD is a follow-up to This Old Road from 2006, his first album in a dozen years, and reflects on life and love. Kris’ concert will be a benefit for Hāna High School and Athletics. A silent auction of memorabilia will be available through intermission, and a limited number of Gold Circle tickets are available for $300 (includes a gift bag and exclusive privileges to meet the artist). Enjoy the timeless talents of Kristofferson in the Castle Theater on Friday, Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20, $35 and $50. For reservations, call 242-7469 or email boxoffice@mauiarts.org. Tickets can be purchased online at MauiArts.org. |
