Person of the Year for 2009

He devoted his life to protecting Maui’s culture, lands and sea. Person of the Year for 2009, Edwin “Ed” Robert Naleilehua Lindsey Jr., devoted a lifetime of hard work communicating a model of preservation of the Hawaiian culture, education and sustainability, and protecting the lands and sea of Maui.

“This is for my grandchildren, their children and their children’s children,” Ed would frequently say when speaking of the many projects he was involved with. He’s seen here, surrounded by his beloved (left to right) grandson Ka‘elo Lindsey, son Ekolu Lindsey, daughter Kahela Constantino, grandson Keolewa Constantino and sister Roselle Bailey.
