The Maui News - Dealing with rising business costs and the recent shifting a huge portion of his customers to InformedRx—a mail-order pharmacy—Paradise Pharmacy owner Larry Land closed the doors of his 20-year business in Pukalani on Tuesday, Dec. 15. Land sold the business to CVS-Longs, and his customer list is currently being transferred to Pukalani’s Longs, where Land may work part-time. Walgreens and Longs have been moving assertively to buy up nearly all of the small pharmacies on Maui, taking over nearly half a dozen over the last two years. There are still four independent pharmacies open on Maui—three related businesses in Wailuku, Makawao and Pā‘ia, and one in Ha‘ikū.
