Jai Uttal

January 28, 2010
Maui Weekly
The Studio Maui in Hä‘iku presents World Music pioneer Jai Uttal and Fulbright award-winning tabla drummer Daniel Paul for two unforgettable nights of kirtan Friday, Feb. 5, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 7, at 7p.m. An afternoon workshop, “Art of Devotional Singing,” will be held on Saturday, Feb. 6, from 2 to 5 p.m.

The performances are part of a tour in support of the newly released CD, Thunder Love.

Jai and Daniel consistently deliver unique performances over the course of recording careers that have spanned more than two decades, with treks into multi-cultural world music, avant-garde jazz, electronic rock and traditional Indian kirtan—or sacred chants—that have become staples in the yoga-practicing community.

Kirtan tickets are $25 in advance and $30 the day of the performance.

Workshop registration is $60. Pre-registration is $50 until Feb. 5, and can be purchased in combination with kirtan tickets ($70 includes workshop and one night of kirtan; $90 includes workshop and two nights of kirtan).

For tickets, registration and information, contact The Studio Maui at 575-9390 or online at

The Studio Maui is located at 810 Ha‘ikü Road in the Ha‘ikü Marketplace.
