Maui Tsunami

March 4, 2010
Maui Weekly

Clyde and Lori Alexander from Kahului made themselves comfortable, along with their dog, Nitrous, and caged cockatiel Patches, in a shady area adjacent to the Jesus is Alive Church in Pukalani. “Why wait until something happens when you can go Upcountry and be safe?” asked Lori. Four visitors from Atlanta, Georgia, evacuated their Mäkena Beach & Golf Resort room for higher ground near Longs in Pukalani. They purchased picnic items at the drug store because “everything else was closed. You know it’s serious when McDonald’s is closed,” they said.

Like many on Saturday, they waited out the tsunami Upcountry. Clyde and Lori Alexander from Kahului made themselves comfortable, along with their dog, Nitrous, and caged cockatiel Patches, in a shady area adjacent to the Jesus is Alive Church in Pukalani.
