Josephine Buck, one of the 2009 winners of the American Association of University Women (Maui Branch) Scholarships (AAUW), believes that the funding made her career change possible.
When she lost her job in journalism, Buck wanted to return to school to study anthropology and archeology, but couldn’t see how she could afford it. Now in her second year at University of Hawai‘i Maui College (formerly Maui Community College), “Josey” said, “I couldn’t have done it without the scholarship.”
Buck, who is a straight-A student, plans to continue her studies at UH Mānoa next year. She is one of three women who received AAUW scholarships last year; all are achieving success in their studies at UHMC.
