The free event will be a day of family fun, education and networking focused on positive action we can all take to improve the health of the sea.
“Uncle” Mac Poepoe of Hui Mālama O Mo‘omomi and “Uncle” Mervin Dudoit of Ka Honua Momona International will be honored with the Mālama i ke Kai Annual Kupuna award.
“Uncle” Ed Lindsey, Maui’s treasured kupuna and founder of Mālama Honokōwai, was last year’s honoree.
Auntie Gordean Bailey leads her hula troupe, Hula Hālau Wehi Wehi o Leilehua, at last year’s More Fish in the Sea event.
This community event will also provide opportunities to reach out to members of the Maui community with informational booths. These “kuleana booths” are meant not only to connect Maui families with quality information, but to inspire community members to take responsibility and act to protect one of our most precious resources, the ocean.
As of press time, the event is also scheduled to include an ocean film festival, live local music, ono grinds for purchase inside the restaurant, water-quality testing lessons and reef surveys.
