The Maui Coffee Association will present their Third Annual Seed to Cup Workshop on Saturday, April 24, 2010 from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Kula Community Center.
The workshop will include displays of coffee, cacao and macadamia nut processing equipment provided by Captain Cook Trading Company from the Big Island.
Coffee pulping and hulling demonstrations begin at 2 p.m.
Microbiologist/Plant Pathologist Wes Chun, Ph.D., chief science officer of Advanced Biological Research, will be available to answer questions and diagnose plant ailments (even if they aren’t coffee). Feel free to bring cuttings.
Economic analysis and e-commerce expert Dr. Sabry Shehata of UH-Hilo, College of Agriculture will be available to answer questions throughout the afternoon. Learn how to use the interactive software provided free of charge to prepare your farm business plan.
Also, methods and techniques that can be used by the backyard coffee grower will be displayed throughout the afternoon. Sample tastings of coffee grown on Maui will be available as well.
This will be a fun educational day for anyone interested in coffee. Come learn what goes into a carefully crafted cup of 100 percent Maui coffee.
