Na Hale O Maui, a community land trust (CLT) working to secure and preserve a permanent supply of affordable housing for local residents, is sponsoring a homebuyers’ seminar on Saturday, May 8, from 9 to 10 a.m. Registration is at 8:45 a.m. The trust received $3 million in Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) funds to acquire and rehabilitate foreclosure properties. The organization has already sold four homes to qualified buyers and is in the process if acquiring more homes.
Na Hale O Maui is looking for qualified buyers to purchase these NSP units.
The seminar, which will be held at the J. Walter Cameron Center, on 95 Mahalani St. in Wailuku, is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. Potential homebuyers are asked to reserve seating by calling 244-6110 or emailing email@example.com by Friday, May 7.
The seminar will provide important information about homeownership under the community land trust model and the steps a family can take today to work towards qualifying financially for a home loan. Seminar attendees will learn why their credit score is important, how it is computed and how to improve it. It will cover the steps toward reaching homeownership through the CLT model. Participants will learn how the unique structure of a CLT makes property less expensive to the homebuyer, and in many cases, easier to acquire.
