Symphonic Band Workshop
A free weekly symphonic band workshop with The Maui Community Band. Woodwind, brass, and percussion players of all ages and of intermediate to advanced levels are invited to attend. Original works will be performed by the band in a concert at Queen Ka‘ahumanu Shopping Center on Thursday, July 1, and at Lahaina’s July 4th celebration. Rehearsals take place 7 to 9 p.m. every Thursday at a Central Maui location. For more information, call Lisa Owen at 572-6247.
Making A Band
These sessions are designed for all youth who already play an instrument and want to join a band of their peers. Participants audition and are grouped with a band. Each band is provided with a place to rehearse and the opportunity to be recorded. Sessions begin at 9 a..m. at Kïhei Charter School and Maui Wave Studios.
The cost of the program is $125.
Guitar, Bass, Percussion Lessons
These classes are organized by instrument and are further separated by skill level (beginning, intermediate and advanced). Students also have opportunities to play with professional musicians. Classes are offered to beginner to advanced players ages 9 to 18 years. Classes begin at 10 a.m. in Kïhei at Maui Wave Studios and Kïhei Charter School. The cost for each one-hour class is $15.
Introduction to Entertainment Technician
This course teaches students aged 12 to 18 the fundamentals of audio engineering, lighting design, stage craft, stage management, audio recording and audio engineering techniques. The sessions culminate in a field trip to the Maui Arts & Cultural Center (MACC). Sessions will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at locations including Maui Wave Studios, Kïhei Charter School and the MACC. The cost is $100.
