The gardening program is aimed at providing the youth with an opportunity to learn about horticultural plant sciences, healthy eating habits, sustainability, environmental stewardship and service, and developing an appreciation for nature.
Participants at the workshop will take part in hands-on youth gardening activities, learn about the Junior Master Gardener (JMG) program and other curriculum materials, and explore ideas about involving children in learning about plants and the environment.
Other aspects covered at the workshop will include aquaponics, funding, resources, training, support/involvement and evaluation.
The JMG program curricula contains integration into math, science, social studies, language arts and includes several standardized test formatted reading passages.
