Denny’s will donate 20 percent of the gross receipts during these special dinner hours, all tips and 100 percent of all donations that evening to the Camp RYLA Program, which is held at Camp Maluhia. Students from eight Maui high schools who were selected to return to the January 2011 Camp RYLA as assistant facilitators and camp assistants will act as “Celebrity Servers.”
The benefit, sponsored by the nine Rotary Clubs of Maui, is an intensive coed leadership training and development program, which is designed for 10th and 11th grade students from all Maui County public and private high schools.
RYLA campers will experience a broad range of activities to encourage campers to think about leadership principles and how they can apply them in their lives. Adult Rotary Club facilitators and student Camp RYLA graduate assistant facilitators will guide the 72 campers through a variety of experiences including interactive games, physical activities and discussions on leadership topics relevant to teens. The program will empower and challenge the participants to be proactive in their school and community.
Camp RYLA is one of the many community service and youth-related projects sponsored by the Rotary Clubs on Maui. The nine clubs on Maui are a part of Rotary Internationals’ global network of more than 32,000 clubs in 207 countries. Rotary International consists of 1.2 million professional men and women who, as civic leaders, volunteer to improve the quality of life in their home and world communities.
